What does your body do for you? It helps you move, do all your favorite activities, it heals and lets you experience life through all your senses.
Your body also acts as a filter. Bodies can help us discern between truth and error.
Remember those lie detector tests? Polygraph tests? They work accurately because the body gives out signs, clues when someone is not speaking truth.
If you’re a mom or dad you’ve seen this in action, right? You just KNOW when your kid is lying! They won’t make eye contact, they shift, they dance around.
Lies feel uncomfortable in the body.
When we’re on our mat we can practice this discernment. What does truth feel like in your body? Think of a time when you just knew something was true. How did you know it?
Someone described hearing/recognizing truth like this: “It’s like a bell rang in my body and the reverberation cleared out all the non truths, until that single truth was transparent. My whole body resonated with that truth.”
This is the power of yoga, learning to listen not just with the ears but with all the senses, with the entire body. But not just listen, discern truth.
In a word truth is light. “That which is of God is light and he that receiveth light and continueth in God, receiveth more light and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” D&C 50:24
